Tiberias and the Area

Once again we were invited by our “Moadon Tvuna,” (in English, “The Wisdom Club”) in our hometown Tuval, for a wonderful day-trip with our amazing tour guide, Avirama Harris,

We left Tuval in the morning and drove to the Hamat National Park. We ate our picnic breakfast there and then took a short walk on site, to see the synagogue mosaic - one of the most beautiful in the country from the Mishnaic and Talmudic period. We also saw an excellent audio-visual presentation inside the ancient synagogue. Some of us soaked our feet in the hot pools and walked barefoot on the 'reflexology trail' there - a walkway with colorful stones and pebbles implanted in the cement.

From there we continued on to Moshavat Kinneret, and walked along a short, easy and very historical route. We talked about the return of date palms to Israel and the famous 'Scent of the Saltbush' (famous from Naomi Shemer’s song about the Eucalyptus Grove, which we walked through as we sang the song), and ended up at the 'Yardenit' (a sacred baptism spot for Christians).

From there we took a short drive to the Medical and Pioneers Museum in Moshav Menachemiya, and there we enjoyed a picnic lunch as well as a short workshop on making rosemary oil. Our guide there, Malka, was so sweet!

Our first stop was right on the main road, heading south leaving Tiberias.

The Reflexology Trail in Hamat

Next, we drove from Tiberias to Moshavat Kinneret and started an easy, 2 km stroll down a path that was full of history and fascinating explanations. (If you are interested in the explanations, go back to the top and click on the links provided. It's worth it!)

Enjoy this short video clip of us walking through the Eucalyptus Grove, with Nomi Shemer's song being played for us on Avirama's portable loudspeaker.

Right across the street from the grove is the Yardenit near Degania, a sacred place for Christians where they come from all over the world to be Baptized in the Jordan River.

From here we took a ten-minute drive to Moshav Menachamiya, the first moshav in the area, founded in 1901. Here we visited the "Doctor's House" ("Medical and Pioneers Museum"), had lunch, and Malka taught us how to make rosemary-infused olive oil.
